August 29 Prayer Points

August 29, 2021

All Athletes in Paralympic Sports

Paralympians have lived this past year under incredible pressure, uncertainty, fear, insecurity, expectations, frustration, and many ups and downs. May these athletes know that they are not defined firstly by their disability but rather by their humanity, and their identity is not in their sport but in Christ.

For many Paralympians, sports are a beautiful way to move beyond disability. In those moments, let’s pray that they will see how Christ wants to give them life in all its fullness.

  • Pray for the physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health of the athletes.
  • Pray that the athletes value this exceptional opportunity to compete at the highest levels of human courage, triumph, and endeavor.
  • Pray for non-Christian athletes to have open hearts to hear the Good News. May God speak to them on how they can live their life to the fullest.
  • Pray for athletes under tremendous pressure and expectation from their country. They often feel the expectation of earning a medal for their country.

Here is a two-minute video that explains how sports people feel about sports.

Region of Chugoku

This region contains the prefectures of Tottori (Japan’s least populated prefecture), Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi. Hiroshima city, the major city in that region, was the site of the first devastating atomic bomb during WWII.

  • Peace is a significant concern for the people in Hiroshima and the region. Pray that many there will come to know Jesus Christ as the Prince of Peace.
  • Pray for parachurch ministries in this region, including Christian welfare facilities, medical institutions, nursing homes, and schools. May people come to know Jesus as their gentle and lowly Savior who cares for their whole well-being.
